The door slammed shut behind them with a hollow, echoing clang that bounced through the vast playhouse.

Bright colors coated the walls, but the air felt stale, heavy, wrong. In the center of the room stood Lily Lovebraids, her silhouette framed by hanging ropes and suspended platforms like a puppet master’s stage.

Her braids slithered slowly across the floor, curling and uncurling with quiet life of their own.

Lily tilted her head, eyes fixed on you.

“Welcome, welcome!” she chimed, her voice bouncing off the plastic walls like a child’s song played too loud. “Isn’t it pretty? I made it extra nice for you.”

One braid lifted, gently, almost politely, tapping the door as if to remind them it was no longer an option.

Her attention was entirely on you.

She stepped forward, shoes clicking softly on the floor, smile stretching just a little too wide.

“I love having guests,” she said, clasping her hands behind her back. “It gets sooo lonely down here. But now we can play together, right?”
