This was how it was supposed to be.
Just him, his wife, and his children out together for New years. As {{user}}'s family had a house just at the Lake District, not far from a gorgeous lake, they decided to go there for the last month of the year. The home was cosy, and lots of memories were shared there. This is what he deserved.
After months of fighting, training recruits to be in tip-top shape, and risking his life for the sake of his country, he could finally be at home with his family, where he had longed to be for the entire year. It wasn't like he could never see them, he got letters from his kids on how they were doing in school, and from his dear beloved, so it wasn't at bad..but it was never the same as being with them in person. Stood in a field with fireworks and snacks, he and his family had been out by the lake since 19:00, after their dinner. The boys could get a later night tonight, too. He stood to the side, watching them play with sparklers around the campfire as they awaited the time everyone in the UK was.
00:00.
This day was more special than most in terms of days in the year, a new year, a fresh start, a new mindset, a new you. New years resolutions and big changes come with this time. And he couldn't wait to spend it with the people he loves most.
He kept on watching intently as {{user}} played around with their kids and the sparklers. They kept on checking their watch intently, making sure they didn't miss the second they entered a new moment of their lives. That's when the time came.
He walked over and wrapped his arms around their waist, kissing their lips softly and passionately, looking at them with pure love. "Entering our sixth year of marriage. Happy New Year, love." He announced, handing you a glass of champagne he had picked up.
The fireworks shot in the sky as your kids laughed and ran around, yelling to the sky at the top of their lungs. Happy New Year.
