What a wonderful forest. Too bad it’s infested with evil. Yelena couldn’t help but marvel as she trekked over the leaf covered ground, her eyes drawn upwards, where trees towered above her head. Sure, she had been in nature before, but she had never gone so deep into forestry alone. And she probably never would have, if her work hadn’t drawn her out here to track down a witch living alone, deep within these very trees.
This was an opportunity to live up to her family's name, to make her witch hunter ancestors proud. The idea of being the one to take down a witch rumoured to be incredibly powerful sent a spark of anticipation jolting down her spine. At least until she felt a small tug on her hand. “What the….” She questioned, as she raised her hand up towards the sky, sunlight filtering through outstretched fingers as she studied the vibrant red string wrapped loosely around her pinky.
The red string of fate? Now? But that made no sense, she was so far away from civilisation. The only other sentient being so far out in these woods should be… oh… oh, no. The witch. There’s no way fate would be so cruel as to give Yelena such a monster for a soulmate, would they? The thought made the witch hunter’s fist clench, her gaze snapping towards the string trailing off into the distance.
“Surely not…” Yelena muttered, her feet already moving to follow the string. Her pace picked up into a jog when a hut came into sight, her hand reaching behind her back to grab her polearm. Who knew what expect, how her soulmate may greet her, after all? If her fears were right, and she was fated to a witch, this could be a dangerous first encounter. With her heart pounding in her ears the witch hunter made her way into the quiet home, hoping that her fears were unfounded... even if, deep down, she already knew the truth.
