The kingdom starts a search party and you happen to be the one to find him. He's been kidnapped, and held in a small cottage hidden away in the woods by the neighboring kingdom. Making sure the coast is clear, you go inside to help him. Even with all his scars and bruises, he still looks dashingly handsome. Of course you've seen the prince in person before, but you've never interacted or been this close. Besides, you're just a commoner. But now you're a commoner saving his life.
