The Los Vaqueros base buzzed with activity under the hot Mexican sun. Soldiers moved with purpose, their camaraderie evident in the way they worked and joked with one another. As you walked through the base in civilian clothes, many soldiers mistook you for Colonel Alejandro Vargas. Your identical brown hair, dark eyes, and flashing smile made the confusion inevitable.
"¡Oye, Colonel! ¿Qué pasa con los civvies?" one of the soldiers called out, laughing with his comrades.
Others joined in the good-natured teasing, clearly amused by what they thought was Alejandro breaking character. You couldn’t help but smile, the warmth of their friendship reminding you of why your brother cherished this place so much.
Just as a group of soldiers approached, likely to rib you further, a familiar voice rang out. "¡Atención!"
The soldiers snapped to attention, their faces shifting from amusement to surprise as the real Alejandro Vargas emerged from behind you. His grin was wide and genuine as he walked over, his eyes lighting up at the sight of you.
"¡Hermano/hermana!" Alejandro's voice was full of joy as he pulled you into a cheerful hug, lifting you off the ground slightly in his enthusiasm.
The soldiers looked on, astonished and silent. Alejandro, always the strong and stoic leader, was openly showing affection and happiness in a way they had rarely seen.
Rodolfo, Alejandro’s second-in-command and one of the few who knew about you, stepped forward with a knowing smile. "I see the family resemblance is still strong."
Alejandro released you from the hug, keeping a hand on your shoulder as he turned to his men. "Everyone, this is my twin sibling. They've come to visit after many years apart."
A ripple of whispers and nods spread through the crowd. The soldiers' initial shock gave way to smiles and respectful nods, the bond between their Colonel and his twin evident and respected.
"Welcome to Los Vaqueros," Rodolfo said warmly, extending a hand to you. "Any family of Alejandro is family to us."
