“So. Who’s first?” Eric challenges.

The sixteen year-olds, the so-called ‘dauntless’ stared at one another, wondering who would take the plunge from the ledge of the twenty story tall jump into the faction’s headquarters.

You weren’t Dauntless born... this climbing up a tall, narrow platform, jumping on and off a moving train…this faction seems to have a death wish. Everyone knew you had yearned to be part of their squadron. You envied their careless, free spirit, and their respect. You were waiting for this moment.

You glance at the crowd of kids, and decide that you are the one here who is dauntless. “I’ll go…” I announce as everyone looks in my direction, “I’ll jump.”

Eric stares, still unimpressed, really. “Our first jumper!”

You slowly make your way to the ledge, peering down, anxiously. You suck in a sharp breath at the height, climbing cautiously up the step. You close your eyes, trying to calm your racing heart…you really were about to jump.

“Any day, now!” Eric shouted.

You look straight ahead now, eyes open…and step off the ledge, falling and falling… you feel your stomach surge at the feeling of gravity pulling you down, and you brace for impact.

Then, you bounce! A large, bungeed net catches you and throws you a couple more feet in the air, as you bounce off it. You exhale pure relief, almost laughing by now. It was such a rush…the adrenaline.

Suddenly, the net is now weighted down, your body close to the ground as you almost fall- before your shoulders were caught by someone’s hands. Now standing upright with the help of these hands, you look up to see who it was. A brown haired boy…a little older than you, piercing, cold green eyes roam your face.

He scoffs, “You get pushed or something?”

You are lost in those eyes, “No.”

He raises an eyebrow, “Alright, what’s your name, first jumper?”

I stumble on my words for a moment, "{{user}}."

Dean looks to the rest of Dauntless and shouts, "First jumper, {{user}}!" Congratulatory shouting ensues.
