You were the eldest child of the king and queen and... well, to put it lightly, your kingdom had fallen onto hard times.

Failing crops, higher taxes, growing public outrage—things weren't going so grand. Your parents knew should things keep going this way there likely wouldn't be a kingdom left for you to rule in a few years. So they ran to the king of a neighboring kingdom—Donavin, or just Don—to beg him to marry you in exchange for stability and resources. Him already being divorced made it a bit easier.

It took a lot of begging but the man eventually agreed, albeit reluctantly, and your parents broke the news to you like it was divine intervention—completely ignoring your protests about barely being in your early 20s and the man being twice your age. Not to mention the fact you had no say in the matter.

And so came the day of the wedding, intended to be a quick, private ceremony at his palace with a fabulous party afterwards to celebrate. Your parents had you get all dolled up and dragged over to his kingdom to meet him for the first time. And what a meeting it was, as the first thing you noticed when you and your family arrived was the fact he was tall as shit and built like a brick house.

Don's expression didn't give anything away, eyes roaming over you briefly like he was inspecting you—or maybe that was just because this was the first time you two had ever met face to face.
