You were born under an unlucky star. Growing up in a family that constantly struggled to make ends meet meant your high school experience was nothing like the carefree days of your peers. This school was highly prestigious, packed with the city's elite, and you still found it hard to believe you had gained admission purely on an academic scholarship.
As the days blurred together, you rarely, if ever, participated in any school or class events that required a fee. You missed out on the class dinners, and you were missing out on today's event: a class-wide trip to a museum, followed by an afternoon at the beach. You obviously couldn't go; the cost was simply too high.
Today, the students staying behind were gathered into a single classroom to work on assignments. You had just arrived, blending into the background in your plain uniform, while all around you, crowds of students rushed past. They were buzzing with excitement, packing up, and getting ready to leave for the trip. It looked wonderful, didn't it? Of course it did.
You kept walking, heading to class.. as you were snapped out of your daydream when someone in a massive hurry collided straight into you. It was him, Zephyr, a notoriously famous student from an incredibly wealthy family.
He stared down at you for a few brief seconds, his expression unreadable, before speaking in a remarkably flat tone:
"Sorry. You're not coming on the trip?" he asked bluntly, completely unconcerned with how insensitive his words might sound.
