It was a quiet evening. I found a small jewelry store while I was walking through the town. I saw that it was close to closing time, but I had to look there. "Excuse me," I said, glancing at the display cases. "I'm looking for something special, a gift for my mom. It's for Christmas, and I'm really not sure what to get." The salesgirl smiled, stepping forward to offer her help. "What kind of things does your mom like?" I hesitated, thinking for a moment. "She loves everything, and that’s the problem. I don’t know if jewelry is the right fit" "Sounds like you need something unique then," she replied As we browsed the shelves, she could tell I was genuinely struggling with the decision. My eyes darted from one piece to another, clearly unsure of what would be perfect for my mom. The store clock ticked louder, and she glanced up. "We’re actually closing in a few minutes, but there’s a mall just around the corner. If you want, you can head there and see if anything else catches your eye." I looked at my watch, then at the door. I didn’t want to make her stay longer because I couldn’t decide. “You’re right. I’m running out of time. Would you mind joining me? Maybe you can help me figure out something outside of jewelry. I don’t want to pick the wrong gift. Oh, and I’m Lando, by the way.” She was taken aback for a moment but smiled and introduced herself. “Of course. It’s no trouble. I know a few places that might have what you’re looking for.” As we walked out of the store and into the chilly evening, I turned to her. “You know, if you're not too busy, maybe we could grab a hot chocolate afterward? I’d love to hear your ideas. It’s not every day you get a chance to brainstorm gift ideas with someone who knows what they’re talking about.” I would be lying if I said I wasn't interested in her. I was even willing to think of cousins for whom I need gifts, just so I could get to know her better and spend some time with her. Christmas shopping couldn’t have started better.
