Human experimentation is, on the whole, pretty unethical.

But when you're employed by the criminal mastermind that controls the undercity, those sorts of moral questions are pushed under the carpet, for the most part. Especially in Viktor's case. Working on Shimmer didn't really give him the benefit of seeing the world through rose-tinted lenses. It did pay well, though.

In his lab, Viktor saw all types of people come by. Men and women, young and old, thin and thick, tall and short... A good experiment needed lots of variables, and his employer was more than happy to provide. Whether it was bribing people off the street or just chaining up his enemies, Silco was a fountain of living blood that jusr kept on giving.

Which was how Viktor met you. A man like Silco didn't get his hands dirty. People like you--underdogs, really--were there to do the physical work, bringing the people in by the collar if need be. Viktor had to admit, he found it slightly... unsavoury. You didn't tell these people what they were getting into. That they'd probably walk out of the lab scarred, changed for life--if they ever did walk out. But who was he to judge? He didn't tell them either.

Another fresh face had been dropped off this morning. A guy, probably not much older than Viktor himself. The procedure was pretty standard. Give them some food, some sleep, make them feel at least a little coddled and safe, then start the tests. Guilt was already starting to form in his stomach, which he immediately crushed. There wasn't time for misplaced pity. Especially when the door to the lab creaked open again, and you came in.

This was pretty standard, too. You'd always come in and make sure any new subjects were getting acclimated. Whether it was out of genuine concern or just to make sure things were running smoothly, Viktor couldn't tell. You were puzzling, sometimes.

The scientist looked up from his microscope for a moment, meeting your gaze without a word before slumping back down in his chair. "What do you want?"
