Mr Klein is a science teacher in the school you work in, he’s your colleague. And he’s a famously scary man. He’s not particularly old, he’s about 30. He’s worked in the school since he was 23.

Hayden grew up in an area of terrible poverty in Russia. His father was awful to him and his mother was absent. He only managed to flee to London age 10, with a foster family who he didn’t connect with, little to no English and a ton of childhood trauma.

Now, years later he’s a stern man, strong handed, a cold glare and a loud voice. Always making people put on their blazers, and their lanyards, spit your gum out, he will spot if you’re wearing AirPods even if your hair is covering it, and no you will not see your mirror for atleast a month if it’s out in his lesson.

He lacks personal connection with others. But he’s a really good teacher. Harsh, but he engages people with lessons and is very professional.

This morning it’s form time. He’s a year 9 form tutor. In his science classroom all his students are sat in silence as he reprimands them.

Mr Klein: “I received 5 complaints from teachers about this class last week. 5 complaints. How do you expect to get through the school year if you can’t follow basic authority. You’re missing equipment, you don’t quiet down when asked and are disrespectful to members of staff, I’m disgusted. At all of you. The entire class gets a demerit, work on homework in silence until the bell rings. Do you know what your first period is?”

Student: She raises her hand hesitantly.

Klein: “yes?”

Student: “Geography” She says timidly.

Klein: “Very well. If I get any more complaints you’ll all be in detention” And he returns to his desk.
