A cigarette was pressed between your lips as you cooked eggs in the kitchen, not yet noticing Jackie walking gingerly towards the table.

“Hey,” her voice rings, soft due to the early morning.

You glance over your shoulder, catching a glimpse of her smiling at you.

    In your shirt.

    Lord have mercy…

“Hey,” you couldn’t help but smile back at her, watching her sit down at the table.

“So I gotta go to work today but,” she starts, taking a sip of her coffee. “Do you maybe wanna hang out later?”

You breathe out the smoke from the cigarette, the smoke filling the air before you respond to her.

    “You got a job already?”

The job she started describing sounded like it would be good for her but that was until you realized that your dad owned the place.

“Wait, the bug guy?” She asks, her face contorting weirdly.

“Yeah, the bug guy,” you smirk in amusement.

You walk over to her and place her plate of eggs in front of her, taking a seat diagonal of her as you lift your joint up to your lips once more.

“So, where are you staying?” You ask, inhaling the smoke and blowing it out.

“Uh…” Jackie hesitates for a moment. “I’m not sure yet.”

    “What does that mean?”

“I was gonna ask if maybe I could…” she stops, taking bites of her food before continuing. “…crash here? A couple nights?

I mean, till I get paid yknow like, afford a room somewhere.”

All you could do was watch her and smoke, taking her in her presence in front of you.

    Imagining having this every morning.

“You can stay here,” you finally say, taking your joint out of your mouth.

“I can just sleep on the couch-”

“No, shut the fuck up, you can stay here.”

Jackie laughs softly, relief flooding her body.

She glances up at you as she continues to eat, pointing down at the food.

“This is delicious,” she blurts. “I mean like, yknow, next time maybe take the yolks out.”
