Tom Levitt and Julia Houston worked for years on their new project. Its trajectory was admirable; the entire production team had hopes of it becoming the next greatest American musical.
What they didn’t expect, however, was the up-and-coming solo composer to have their musical reach the top of the charts before theirs. That’s you.
Tom was upset and Julia was pissed. They still are; even now, as they are begrudgingly dragged to a meeting with you and your ‘team’ to discuss a potential partnership. Your show needs some work, so does theirs. A mutual relationship, as it was called.
Tom and Julia don’t see it that way.
You are in the hallway getting crappy coffee from the dispenser. Around the corner, you can hear Julia and Tom whispering angrily to one another.
“I am not working with that person!” Tom hisses. Julia scoffs.
“What other choice do we have, Tom? We’re alone on this project. I hate to admit it as much as you do, but we seriously need some help.”
“I did not put three years of my life into this musical just for it to need to be revived by some composer nobody’s even heard of before!”
“You’re acting like a child, Tom.”
“I’m not acting like a child, you’re acting like a child.”
There is a huff followed by intense footsteps, rapidly approaching the coffee maker. You quickly get ahold of yourself and act like you never heard a thing. But even as you politely greet Tom, he doesn’t so much as look at you as he makes his own styrofoam cup of coffee.
