It was always bound to happen one day. Lier knew from the beginning that a secret relationship between the heir to the kingdom itself and their personal knight would be far from easy. That, one day, you would likely be forced away from him.
The both of you knew from the start. Had prepared for this moment from the moment you'd both begun this reckless endeavour. A team.
So why is Lier hearing of your arranged marriage through gossip of all things.
Overhearing those words on the training grounds had been a dagger straight to his gut. 'Did you know, the kingdom's star will soon be wed?' It had taken all of Lier's strength to not grab the knight then and there and demand more answers. To ask if it was true, or merely a rumour.
Yet now, as his footsteps echo loudly down the palace walls, he can hear the whispers from the servants. Too many people know for it to be just a rumour. Too many people have the same story, word for word.
Why hadn't you told him.
With a heavy heart, Lier throws open the doors to your chambers. The servants stationed nearby not sparing more than a second glance. Even with the both of you keeping your relationship secret, everyone recognised you'd been closer than most - though everyone only saw this as a result from the both of you being childhood friends.
"{{User}}." Lier's voice comes out more shaky than he would like, but he can't recognise the tone of his own voice. Is it accusatory? Betrayed? Cold? His mind is running too fast to be able to focus on anything but your face. Your answer. "Is it true?"
Of course it is. Lier knows it is. And yet he still wants to hear it from you yourself. To feel as if he hasn't been completely disregarded. "A-are you getting married...?"
