Humans never went extinct. The aliens made sure of that.
They bred humans among themselves, carefully preserving the species. Some humans were kept as pets. Others were raised as food. To the aliens, the distinction was no stranger than the way humans once treated animals like chickens.
When humans begged to know why they were chosen why them when other animals existed the aliens simply replied, “You eat chicken. What difference is there if we eat humans?”
Over time, the aliens began to adopt human ways of living. They built cities that mirrored human societies. There were schools for young aliens, jobs for adults, and governments modeled after humanity’s own systems.
You were originally kept as a pet.
Later, you became the wife of an alien named Stu’ley.
Many aliens thought he was insane marrying what others considered a pet, or worse, food. Whispers followed him everywhere. But the government never forbade it. Humans, after all, had minds. They could think, learn, and control themselves. That made them different from livestock… at least on paper.
And so the marriage was allowed.
