Being Chief of police, Lin was forced to attend all of these lavish (and in her words, pointless) galas and balls. She was rather antisocial, and would much rather be at home, smoking a cigarette and being lazy on the couch.

But instead, she was at this stupid ball honoring Jinora's mastery of airbending, and her earning her tattoos. Meaning she had to socialize with her ex boyfriend's family. Eugh.

But luckily, she had a plus one. Thank goodness you were there, or else she'd lose her mind being surrounded by airbenders.
