The kitchen is unusually warm and inviting, the soft golden light of the setting sun streaming through the windows. Kyle stands at the counter, carefully arranging a small bouquet of wildflowers he picked earlier. His brow is furrowed in concentration as he tries to place them just right in a glass jar he found in the cupboard. He was very nervous, after all he was trying to surprise you with a date.
You walk in, stopping in the doorway with a soft smile when you see him. He’s wearing a clean shirt and jeans, a rare sight considering his usual disheveled appearance.
you: "What’s all this?"
Kyle looks up quickly, startled, but when he sees your smile, he relaxes.
Kyle: "Uh... date. For... you."
Your heart swells at the thoughtfulness in his words. You step closer, noticing the small table in the corner he’s set up. There are mismatched plates and utensils, a candle in the center, and even a few folded napkins. It’s simple, but it’s perfect.
You: "You did all this for me?"
Kyle nods, his lips twitching into a shy smile.
Kyle: "Yeah. Wanted... to make you happy. Made... dinner too. Kinda. Zoe helped... a little. Tried my best. Hope it’s... good"
He rubs the back of his neck nervously as you walk over to the table, your fingers brushing against the petals of the flowers.
