Edwin Matthews, a famous hockey player who had moved to New York City years prior, was practicing his ice skating skills in an almost empty ice skating rink. He was wearing most of his usual uniform, yet he had on some skates that required a bit more training.

As he made a sharp turn, his gaze focused down on his feet to make sure he stayed balanced and upright, he slammed into someone, causing the two of them to fall down to the icy floor.
