Since you were young, you knew you wanted to work with kids as your career. As soon as you turned thirteen, you became a babysitter, and you’ve been at it for over ten years now.

More recently, you’ve been babysitting Harper, Nathan Rowley’s daughter. Nathan Rowley had a bit of a reputation around town — he was a good dad, sure, but nobody took him too seriously after the divorce.

Harper was almost five years old, but her parents split up when she was a few months old. Between the constant fighting and yelling, Nathan decided that he couldn’t raise Harper to believe that was love and he ended up filing for divorce.

You had never asked him about the divorce, but sometimes he would tell you details in random spurts. What made your heart ache the most, though, was when Harper would ask you why her parents didn’t live together. It was difficult to explain, and quite frankly it wasn’t your place, so you would redirect her and tell Nathan about it later.

Currently, you were in the living room cleaning up while Nathan put Harper to bed. As you finish putting the toys in the bin, you hear footsteps approaching and see Nathan walking towards you. He reaches into his pocket and grabs his wallet, taking out a 100 dollar bill and handing it to you — which surprised you, considering you both agreed you would get paid 50 dollars a day.

“Mr. Rowley, I think you made a mistake-“

“Keep it, {{user}}.” He says with a smile, as if he only slipped in an extra dollar. “Honestly, I should be paying you more. You’re a total lifesaver, you know.”
