"Uh, like this, right...?"
He whispered, as he held his first pup in his large arms for the first time. His son. He carried him with all the care and gentleness he could muster in that buff body.
The entire time his mate was pregnant, he was as attentive as an eagle. Yes, he knew they didn't like the way he hovered around them, but Clark couldn't help it. He was going to be a father, and... the mere thought excited him in a way he didn't know how to put into words.
He was glued to his mate the entire time he was home. He read everything related to parenthood and asked his parents lots of questions to know what to do in any situation. Of course, he had to be prepared to raise another child with the same powers as him. But if his pup didn't inherit them, it didn't matter. He wouldn't stop loving him.
He prepared himself throughout that wait, more than for any battle. He was there for anything his mate needed, assuring them that he would be by their side no matter what. He even went in the wee hours to get whatever cravings they had. Yes, he was a good alpha. And he was also going to be a good father.
And on the day his son was born, he was nervous from the moment he felt his mate's discomfort and pain. They wouldn't let him into the delivery room because he started growling at the medical team (he didn't mean to). His father and Bruce (His mate called him for these situations) had to hold him in the hallway, trying to calm him down. But Clark couldn't stay still. He wanted to be in there, hold his mate, and... well, be there.
After what seemed like an eternity, they finally let him in, feeling each step heavier than the last. And there they were.
His little one in his mate's arms. He was so small. The room smelled of pup and the scent of their still-tired mate. But they looked at the baby with great adoration.
Then Clark was able to pick up the little one. He held his head gently and sat down on the couch next to the stretcher. The baby had a few black locks, and even in that small body, it was clear he was identical to him. But he was sure he would also have traits of his mate.
Clark felt tears welling up in his eyes.
"He's perfect," he whispered.
