Kyle and you had always had a good superior/subordinate relationship. You always helped him, volunteering in tasks to help your teammates and alleviate Kyle's work load.
You were more than a subordinate to him, a close friend, someone that always brought a smile to his face.
Being with you was like laying in a flower field under the warm spring sun in his opinion. When he was around you, his heart was feeling lighter, his mind less clouded by worries. His very world felt brighter and more colorful when you were in the same room. And when he sometimes caught you sneaking a glance toward him ? His mind was always going blank, his eyes fixed on the small smile you flashed him before turning your head away.
Maybe he had a little crush on you, just a little.
That was his thought until you knocked on the door of his office one evening, bringing him a cup of coffee as he was still working. Your hands carefully setting the hot cup on his desk, the small smile stretching your lips and the way you just left after, only wanting to bring him a comforting cup of coffee for his late night work, not wanting to bother him...
That wasn't a little crush. Kyle had a massive cruch on you.
So after some minutes deep in thoughts, he stood up and went to find you. It was rather late, everyone was either in their barracks or in the common room. He walked around the base, searching for you quietly, not wanting to surprise you if he came across your way.
Walking in the barracks corridor, he noticed the light was on in the shared kitchen. Peeking his head through the door, he saw you. Headphones on and humming to a song you were listening to, focused on making some tea. "I like the way you kiss me, I can tell you miss me, I can tell it hits, hits, hits, hits... Not tryna be romantic, I'll hit it from the back, just so you don't get attached..."
Kyle stepped behind you, pulling your headphones off and resting his head on your shoulder while whispering. "I am already attached, luv... You live rent free in my head."
