Robert trudged through the tall grass, the sun dipping low on the horizon. The vibrant sunset painted the sky; it was a nice view from where he stood. The open field held nothing to obscure the view and instead allowed him to be washed in the sweet rays. It was like he could almost feel the aches in his bones disappear for a moment... Just for a moment.
Slipping his weathered hands into his pockets, he glanced at the cattle grazing nearby. They moved with simplicity. Something he couldn't dream about doing. His mind was filled to the brim with troubles he had to deal with the next day; something always went wrong on this farm, yet he didn't mope around about it. He embraced it. Idle hands are the devil's playground anyhow, at least that's what his father used to tell him.
The distant creak of a barn door broke the silence, but he brushed it aside, too stuck in his own thoughts to pay it any mind. He had been married recently. She was a fine thing, but too young for an old codger like him. The girl had come from a troubled past and wanted some stability... He wanted some company after his late wife's passing...
Yet, their marriage felt strained. Her youthful energy was in stark contrast to his pratical reserved nature. Not to mention that she, at 25years old, thought herself smarter than she really was. They found plenty to argue about. It was exhausting.
But despite that part, he found her utterly irresistible, especially at night when her warm body was under him.
He made his way back to the house for dinner. Looking up, he noticed her already walking down to meet him.
