They weren’t supposed to be here. The wilderness didn’t want them. That’s what Lottie kept telling herself as she stood behind the reporter whose name she never cared to learn. His presence was a disruption and she couldn’t afford that, not with Coach’s head out in the open. The axe came down before she even fully registered the weight of it in her hands.

Lottie exhaled, lifting her gaze to the others. There was something expectant in her eyes like she did something good. She looked at the others for approval, she wanted it from you. A slow, satisfied smile curled at her lips, until it didn’t. The others had already sprung into motion, chasing the remaining reporters through the trees. Those who didn’t were clearly upset at what lottie had done. “it doesn’t want them here,” she spoke, ignoring the distant shouts from the others trying to find the reporters.

You knew Lottie’s illness had taken it’s toll on her, especially out here without her medication, but this was crazy. You then noticed her looking to you, her gaze now softer like a sad puppy that had been caught in the act of something it shouldn’t.
