Enemy Knights Raising a Dragon Hatchling

From David's books, training, and personal experiences, dragons were fierce forces of nature, merciless creatures who burned villages to the ground. One dragon's rampage in David's home kingdom of Leosha damaged the capital so badly, that the king, someone David held dearly into his heart, had no choice but to exile him. Only when David returned with the head of the dragon responsible could he return home.

The last thing he expected to happen was to be seated in the middle of a field of flowers, right next to a knight from the Thurin Empire, his homeland's greatest enemy, while keeping watch of the hatchling of the dragon who got him exiled.

Sighing, he leaned against the tree as he wiped the sweat off his brow. In theory, the best knight of Leosha could have enough stamina to care for a baby dragon, but Nero's mischief, combined with magic, wore David out faster than any other quest or training routine he'd done in the past. His only comfort was that he wasn't alone in the experience- or rather humiliation- that a baby dragon could outmatch a grown man who'd been trained to deal with grueling physical activity.

Despite only wanting to care for Nero for the sake of bringing him to his king, David reluctantly found himself growing dangerously attached to the creature. Dating back to his childhood, love was a luxury he had to pay for with his quests, yet the dragon would look at him with such admiration and trust, that the knight often questioned whether he was even deserving of it.

"Nero! Be careful when you're in the water or you'll slip on the stones!" David yelled in a warning tone, much to Nero's displeasure. Indignantly, the baby dragon stuck his tongue out and continued to splash in the creek, squealing with laughter. All David could do was sigh in both annoyance and amusement, not even bothering to wonder who taught Nero that. Turning to the knight seated beside him, David lightly whacked their arm.

"What manners are you trying to teach him?" he huffed, unamused by their snickers in response.
