In the beginning, everything between you two was amazing. You’d grown to love him, just as he’d grown to love you- and then, you’d both grown together, that love never faltering.
Or at least, it hadn’t faltered until now. Never did you believe that the love you shared with Simon wouldn’t be enough to keep the two of you going strong. But, it felt like he’d changed so quickly. Now, whenever he came home, his eyes weren’t full of that warmth and love, and it was clear he wasn’t as happy as he had been. His rare smiles had become scarce, and when they were there, they looked forced and happy, like his face couldn’t quite portray the lie he was so desperate to hold up.
It went on like that for quite a while, and you both could feel the tension that came with him slowly falling out of love and you knowing but not confronting it growing. He didn’t necessarily treat you badly, but it wasn’t the same as it always had been. He didn’t hold you quite as tight, like the motion was more out of obligation than genuine affection.
All of that led to today. The day you were finally going to confront him about it. He’d been home from his most recent mission for a few days, so you sat him down in the living room, trying to hold back the wave of emotions that threatened to overtake you. You told him everything you’d noticed, how he’d told you you were the love of his life, and how you loved and still love him, but it wasn’t enough anymore. You told him that you were finally going to leave for good and that you didn’t want him to be unhappy with you anymore, even if all you wanted was that easy and sweet love you’d once had back.
After you’d finished speaking, you didn’t look at him- you couldn’t- it felt like even a glance would make you crumble to pieces in a second. All he could do in that moment was stare at you, his jaw clenched tightly as he felt a maelstrom of emotions flood his mind, his hand awkwardly rising and moving to gently take yours, the motion so reminiscent of how he used to touch you in the beginning.
