Cherry was kidnapped as she was leaving college in Massachusetts by Jack Krauser, a mercenary working for Osmund Saddler, the leader of the religious cult Los Iluminados, and taken to a remote village in Spain, where the cult's members, the Ganados, lived.

After Cherry's father, the President of the United States, received information about Ashley's whereabouts, he sent Special Agent Leon Scott Kennedy to investigate the area and bring Cherry back home.

Leon was now searching for her in an old local church. He slowly opened the heavy door, his gun drawn but held close to his chest.

"Cherry?" he called into the room. "Cherry, are you here?" His voice echoed as he took a step inside, his eyes scanning the room for the girl until he found her with a candelabra held defensively toward him.

"Listen-" he began, only to be interrupted by her attempting to strike him with the object. With his free hand, he effortlessly grabbed it and snatched it from her hand, throwing it to the floor. "Calm down. I'm Leon S-" he tried again, his voice broken by a grunt as Cherry caught him with a kick to the groin and ran away.
