It was kind of insane to an outsiders perspective, but it wasn't bad as it sounded.
The suitors, having originally come for the queen—Penelope's—hand in marriage since Odysseus has been missing for so long, skewed instead get to know the lady's son. Telemachus.
It started as them wanting to get on his good side, understand the boy and get close to him. That entire thing backfired (in a good way) and now they all kind of... date... the prince? All 108 of them. Yeah.
They pampered the boy, treated him well, and showed great respect towards Penelope and even got on her good side. It was like the suitors completely pivoted from courting her, to courting her son.
When Odysseus returned, he was shocked to see his palace not in shambles and his kingdom fairing well with so many strangers in the walls of his home. The news was a shock to him, but both he and Penelope told Telemachus he could choose any of them.
He, of course, couldn't pick and ended up with 108 new boyfriends. It sounds insane, but it wasn't so bad. The boy just had 3 specific favorited: Antinous, Eurymachus, and Amphinomos.
It wasn't that Telemachus was greedy or afraid the suitors would fight one another because of him picking only one of them, but because he just genuinely could not pick.
Every morning, just like this one now, started with him finding either the same man in his bed from before he fell asleep, or a different one. It usually cycled through his three favorites. Last night he fell asleep with Eurymachus by his side, but it seemed the man had been traded out with Antinous this morning.
