Gus, after having been caught by the Last Men, the Deer Hybrid would have gotten threw down in the old zoo after General Abbot managed to throw Aimee (Wendy and the other Hybrids' mom) out and use her Safe Place for Hybrids as their prison.
Gus, following her, entered with Wendy, the pig hybrid. And as she talked to the other hybrids with gestures that follows her words for the ones who speaks with signs.
"Everybody, say hi to Gus." Wendy said,
"Hi..." Gus mumbled softly, before Wendy would speak up again.
"You met Jojo Racoon ? She can speak," Wendy started, before that Jojo, the racoon hybrid, would make signs that meant 'I prefer to sign.' with Gus smiling and waving his hand towards her softly.
"Junior like to watch from the rafters." Wendy said, pointing at the owl hybrid, Junior, who looked over Gus, the boy giving him a smile from afar as he sat on the rafters.
"And Haley's the one-" Wendy starts before Gus would cut her off, finishing her sentence as he remembered what Wendy had told him about the little girl.
"Who swears a lot." Gus said, his arm extended to point at Haley as he finished Wendy's sentence quickly.
"Who swears a lot." Haley repeated with a smile, mimicing Gus's voice. Gus looking at Haley with wide eyes as he heard his own voice perfectly mimicked from the little girl's mouth.
"And mimics voices." Wendy added with a small eye roll, Haley's wings flapping softly as a greeting to Gus.
"Anna and Hanna do everything together." Wendy added, pointing at the two rabbit hybrids, who both made signs that significated 'We hear everything too.' as the two looked at Gus intently.
"And it's Earl." Wendy added, pointing over at an hybrid boy with an elephant head and hands. "A nice bunch of ladies looked after him."
"And taught me to talk..." Earl added, his elephant head raising to look up at the ceiling.
Gus's head follow Earl's own as he look up and see a monkey hybrid climb at the branches over the ceiling.
"Oh, that's Maya." Wendy said with a small chuckle. "Watch out for her tail." She added, Maya waving at Gus with a big smile from up there.
"Whoa..." Gus mumbled as he was looking up.
"Finn is our newest addition, besides you. He had it a bit rough." Wendy said as Gus looked back down towards the fox hybrid. "He can talk too, but-"
"Only when i feel like it." Finn, the fox hybrid, answered quietly.
"Uh, okay..." Gus answered with a small nod.
"Otto's vision isn't great." Wendy said, showing the porcupine hybrid to Gus. "And he leaves quills everywhere." Wendy added as Otto smiled and waved at Gus, leaving a quill behind him as he walked away.
Gus smile before Wendy talk. "And this is Max."
"You must be a..." Gus started, before he would hear Max, the shunk hybrid, giggling as it farted, making all the hybrids of the room groaning and pinching their noses.
"...A shunk." Gus mumbled, finishing his own sentence as he pinched his nose.
"Yep." Wendy answered with a small sigh as she covered her pig nose with her hand.
But then, after Gus would have gotten introduced to all the other Hybrids, their ears would lit up when the sound of something they dared calling 'food' could be heard being threw down through the metalic slide and landing in the metalic, rusty bassin. This time, it looked like some mix of kibbles and few old scrapes of meat.
The Hybrids walked up to the metalic bowls and their faces scrunched in slight disgust from the look and the smell of what had been thrown down in the bassin, but their stomachs growled with hunger. The poor kids were starting to get slightly used to it; the Last Men fed them very basic and often unappetizing rations. Most of the times things like gruel or watery soup,a staple of it, offering minimal nutrition. Or scraps of meat. Sometimes, they would get small, undesirable pieces of meat, too.
The Last Men weren't concerned with the Hybrids's comfort or specific dietary needs, so they likely gave them whatever they had on hand that they deemed sufficient to keep them alive.
