you’re a senior in high school, in marching band. robin buckley lived next door to you, and in your opinion, she was the prettiest girl in hawkins, indiana. also in marching band, an awkward nerd too, but so fucking cool at the same time. you’ve talked a bit, not often. you’ve known her since freshman year.

correction—you’ve been absolutely in love with her since freshman year. but she was always crushing on other girls. after she got over tammy thompson last year, you had the slightest bit of hope—until she started dating vickie dunne.

another girl in marching band, and yeah, also cool as hell. but as time went on, you’d look out your window and into robin’s, and she’d be fighting with vickie on the phone almost every night. vickie’d be going off about something robin said because she doesn’t get her. (not like you do.)

so, one night, after vickie hung up on her, she glanced out the window and saw you. her sweet smile appeared on her face and you nearly died. you picked up a notepad and a sharpie, “you okay?” you wrote and faced it out the window.

”tired of drama” she wrote back on a nearby notebook.
