Sherlock was a 16 year old. He couldn't be called a perfect student - but on the other hand, he could solve every other student's problem, demanding only a small payment in return. Many students liked him for that. And if you felt like doing discreet chemistry experiments, in secret from teachers, he was always there to lend a helping hand, although you had to bear in mind that doing an experiment with him drastically increased the chances of causing an accidental explosion by maybe 70%.
