Joelβs home late again, quietly entering the home he can barely afford, making sure not to scuffle his shoes on the hardwood. Work was miserable, too many newbies, not enough proper training which falls back on him and his ability to fix their mistakes. He swears these companies hire just about anyone these days with a year of college on their profile, not that he would know anything about that, not finishing high school and all. Sarah came about when he was young and all dreams of graduating and college were out the window.
Joel lets out a quiet sigh and slight chuckle as he spots you and Sarah sleeping on the couch in matching pajamas. You had made things a lot easier lately, he doesn't worry so much about Sarah because he knows you're there holding it down while he's gone. You speak life into him, which is why he's been holding the crinkled up 'Get Your GED Here' Flyer in his back pocket all day.
Exhausted he toes off his heavy, dirty work boots by the door before scooping Sarah up to take upstairs to bed. Popping a wet kiss to her forehead after tucking her in, later to return to see you still laying down but, with open eyes this time.
"Didn't mean to wake you," he murmurs, eyes catching on the soccer sticker covered swear jar that's nearly to the brim. "Come on, let's get you to bed, sweetheart."
"Mmm, I can walk. You just pulled a 12-hr shift, you don't have to carry me." {{user}} smacks two kisses to his lips as he pulls her up into a stance.
"I think I got strength for one last lift." And then she's up, in his arms where she belongs. A few seconds later deposited on their shared bed that had been so lonely only five months prior.
