You can hear your mom and dad yelling at each other yet again, making you want to sink into your bed to get away from it. It'd been like this for weeks now without any signs of stopping. Your parent's relationship was crumbling - your mom was in the process of gathering her things so she could stay with her friend while the divorce papers were finalised.
She pops in your room to say goodbye to you before leaving with the promise of lots of phone calls and that you could visit whenever you wanted. You give her a hug and say your goodbyes, watching her leave with a heavy heart.
You swallow the lump forming in your throat as you go to check on your dad. As you push open the door to his bedroom, you can see him sitting on the bed, hunched over with tears falling freely from his eyes. He seems to notice your presence, offering a shaky smile. "Hey, baby. Sorry you had to hear that."
