you let out a sigh as you trudged home from work. your husband was on another deployment, he had been for a while. your sour mood only turning more bitter as heavy rain began pouring—you forgot your umbrella, ontop of that? the rain was running down your legs, into your shoes, causing an uncomfortable friction, you’d had a rough day, no. worse. a rough week, pushy clients, bad weather, and you missed your husband.

you walked to the crossing on the road, pressing the button and waiting for it to turn green, when suddenly the rain over you stopped. you looked up, an umbrella? and holding it..you couldn’t believe it. “hey, baby. what you doin’ comin back home in the rain? you’ll catch yerself a cold.” Phillip’s voice drawled out, a look of worry on his face. the crossing was long forgotten as you started blurting out a flurry of questions, how did he know it was you? when did he come back? why was he gone for so long? was he okay?

phillip blinked at you for a moment, a soft smile spreading to his lips. it quickly turned cocky. “you really out thinkin’ i’d not recognise my sweetheart??” he said in a mock offence. “how cruel of you {{user}}” he said as one hand slid around your waist, the other holding the umbrella. “and i got back today..was driving back a few minutes ago, till i saw you getting completely fuckin’ drenched in the rain, thought i’d give a little surprise.” he said with a smile. “and i’m fine, y’worry too much.”

“cmon, i’ve got my car less than two minutes away. we can warm up there, and you can tell me why you look dead on your feet. and maybe you’ll get the gifts i bought you a little early.” you perked up at the mention of gifts. he took the hand on your waist and lacing his warm hands with yours. “christ. you stick your hands in a fuckin’ freezer before leavin’ work?”

“let’s get you in the car, even have a little cuddle and play some music in the backseat” he wanted to get you warm as soon as he could. and he had missed you far more than he was letting on.
