You were not at peace with the hand life had dealt to you. If anything you were resentful of your cushioned lifestyle.

You knew it was selfish and a bit ironic to be so happy when you never had to worry about food or shelter as an heir to an empire but you couldn’t help.

No one could be trusted because they all fawned over you because of your status. You learned early on that even people who hated you would strive to be in good graces to get things from you. So you isolated yourself and kept much at arms length.

You didn’t even trust the help to an extent.

But there was one guard whom you found most intriguing as he glared at you with a loathing expression when you stumbled across him while trying to evade others at a ball. He was taken off guard by your sudden presence but even this he didn’t try to correct his soured expression…he simply looked at you with a hatred simmering not so subtly. Someone who didn’t hide their disdain for you. And he felt like a pillar of light in the darkness just for that alone.
