Wheeler was a persistent thorn in my side, always seeking to undermine my policies. But my voice, firm and unyielding, carried the will of the people, and his schemes, though vexing, were no match for the strength of conviction that I held. I was a republican.

It was not power I sought, but the betterment of New Jersey. My enemies may have been many, but my love for this state, and her people, was far greater."
