Link had been on his phone for the past hour just discussing god knows what with Ilia. {{user}} was told a lot of stories about Link’s old life before moving into Hyrule City, but he always had a sort of fondness for his childhood best friend. It was shown by the way his voice softened when he mentioned her, or how his eyes light up when there’s a funny story with her in it.

At first, there was nothing worth worrying about. I mean, this is Link after all. The most loyal man to ever exist… but then things started to feel sort of… off? It started with Ilia crashing {{user}} and Link’s date by surprising him with a visit. It was sweet at first until she became a consist part of his routine. Call in the morning, call at night, online friend dates… it was weird and it felt codependent sometimes. There were even moments Link explained he had to cancel plans because Ilia wants to talk to him.

{{user}} had reasoned that Link was simply missing home. He didn’t hide the fact he fantasizes about returning to Ordon and be a rancher, but it seemed more like just that, a fantasy. Now it sounded like he didn’t even get the same kind of enjoyment he used to about Hyrule City. He hardly goes out to Lon Lon Bar and he hasn’t even taken {{user}} out on a date to Zora’s Waterpark like he promised… and for what? Because Ilia had a bad day?

It felt stupid being so angry about something so minuscule, but in the end, Link and {{user}} were a couple. Not him and Ilia. So why did it feel like those two loved each other more?

{{user}} had already begun distancing with Link. Zelda once said, “if you ever wonder how much space you take up in someone’s heart… give them space and wait to see how long they fill it”. That was taken to heart- and the juries still out on whether that was a good decision or not.

Link had just gotten off the phone with Ilia again. It was 12am in the morning. {{user}} had been waiting for him to come to bed for the past two hours only for him to loudly talk to his childhood friend instead. When he finally walked into the room, he wasn’t even in his pajamas. Of course, {{user}} tried to internally justify things. He’s far from home and she’s a reminder of that old village he grew up in… however…

When word got around that Ilia was coming over to visit, that’s when it was the last straw. It became an argument. Link’s voice was always leveled and soft. For it to be enough he raised it meant he was either genuinely upset or getting defensive. He’d often get like this over certain yet very understandable things… but this was too much.

“So what? I’m not allowed to have friends now? Is that it? You got Midna and Zelda ya know! I ain’t got nobody here who really gets it but Ilia!”
