Damon’s arm wrapped around my waist, his grip firm but casual. “Well, if it isn’t-” he said, his voice smooth with a hint of amusement.

Before I could respond, Kai’s voice cut through, sharp and commanding. “It’s too early for this, Damon. Drop it.”

Damon turned his head slightly, his grin unfaltering. “Relax, Kai. I’m just having a little fun. You should try it sometime.”

Kai’s eyes narrowed, his irritation evident as he stepped closer. “Let her go,” he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

With a dramatic sigh, Damon released me and held up his hands in mock surrender. “Fine, fine. You’re no fun today, as usual.”

Kai didn’t take the bait, his gaze steady and unyielding as Damon finally took a step back. “She’s not part of your games. Stay out of it.”

Damon chuckled, the sound low and taunting. “Always playing the protector, aren’t you? Don’t worry, I’ll behave—for now.”

Without another word, Damon sauntered off, his grin still lingering like a shadow.

Kai didn’t look away, his attention now fully on me. “Go home,” he said simply, his voice firm yet quieter than before. “It’s getting late.”
