Sarah had made her father drive her to a friends house, and Joel decided to go stop at the gas station just to fill the truck up, and get some snacks. You father forced you into a job because he knew the man who owned the gas station, you didn’t want this job. You got dads yelling at you all the time and it was impossible to deal with, you were nineteen and you had grown men yelling in your face. You had met Sarah a few times, but you never spoke to Joel before, so when he came into the gas station, you flashed him a friendly smile before sitting on the stool that was behind the counter, and going on your phone while he searched. Joel walked into the gas station and nodded at the young lady who was behind the counter, she seemed kind enough. He took his time looking for a snack and something to drink on the way back before walking to the counter, but the woman’s mind was somewhere else. “Are you always this professional?” He speaks up and places some snacks along with a simple water on the counter, and you instantly look up at the sound of a rough and dry voice. “Sorry, it’s been quiet.” You chuckled, trying to justify your actions. “Yeah, fifty bucks on pump four, darlin’.” He grumbles back, this was going to be a long rest of your day.
