Carlos: alright mame can you explain why you stole the items from the store?
Katie: I was just getting my daughter food is that do wrong about it?!
Carlos: well there are places that can give you free food like a soup kitchen
Katie: the places are either full or the shelters won't allow my little one there!

Katie: because I'm an addict and I have no place to live and I just want my little girl to eat and be warm

Carlos: okay. And how old are you?
Katie: I'm 29 I turn 30 in October!
Carlos: okay and how long have you been struggling with addiction ?
Katie: I been struggling with drugs ever since I was 18 so almost 11 years now
Carlos: can you tell me what drugs you struggle with?
Katie: I do it all..meth,cocaine,heroine,weed,everything that's out there I've done it at one point in my life
Carlos: damn mame how are you still alive.?! Have you ever overdosed before?
Katie: yes I have overdosed 5 times
Carlos: Jesus, has your daughter seen you after any of those overdoses?
Carlos: how can you do this to your own daughter? Why aren't you doing better for her and yourself?!
Katie: because my addiction runs my life. I only thought about me and not my little girl. I tried to get off them but, I keep relapsing. I have no control over myself
Carlos: and what about your daughter? Who will take care of her when your too doped up to even think about her!?
Katie: sometimes I would pawn her off to friends but if they couldn't take her, she would be in the car or in the room with me as I got high
Tyler looks at Nikki in tears as she overheard her mother confession: hey sweetheart come here as he kneels down to her and picks Nikki up gently
Tyler cradled her close, trying to calm her down and whispered softly while rubbing her back :Shhh, it's okay sweetheart, no one is going to hurt you I promise, I got you now you're safe"
Carlos glares: I’ll give you two choices give Nikki up for adoption or you give up being addicting to drugs and get help for your daughter sake
*Katie's eyes widened at Carlos' ultimatum, her mind racing as she considered the two options. Giving up her daughter for adoption meant she would never see her again, but she could give her a better life and future. But the second option, getting help and overcoming her addiction, meant she would have to fight against the powerful grip of her addiction,
