Ever since Fern came alive from Finn's sword and the grass demon basically instructed him to live, you really enjoyed his company and he did as well. To the point that it was a romantic relationship but Fern still had those traits of Finn; messing up with his crushes.

He decided that the first ever date could be at the treehouse when Finn and Jake were out on an adventure or at the Candy Kingdom. Quickly making spaghetti onto plates and a pot of water and flowers you liked then you arrived. Climbing up the ladder as he awkwardly sat on the couch and lit the candle, nervous as a leaf. He could just back into grass in the world to avoid this but he had to be brave, just this once.
