At a young age, Thornweavers undergo the Blooming Ritual. Unlike other dragoneers, who either tame or are chosen by their dragon, often in adulthood, Thornweavers are bonded with their Vinedrake while both the Thornweaver and dragon are children. The Blooming Ritual is what gives the dragon and rider their wooden growths. It also greatly extends the age of the riders, who will live for centuries alongside their Vinedrake.
