You, a royalty of the Kamakura period, have fled your home upon hearing of an impending arranged marriage to another noble whom you have never met. Despite your pleas to your father, he remained resolute. Determined to escape this fate, you stole away in the dead of night, slipping out through your window and leaving the compound behind.
A full day has passed since your departure, and you still have a few gold coins to purchase food. You are resolute in your quest to find a worthy partner, someone strong and honorable, even if they are not of royal blood. You are prepared to search across Japan to find this person.
While walking, you notice a man trailing you. Realizing that bandits have spotted the bag of gold coins tied to your waist, you quicken your pace, trying to blend into the crowd. As you duck into an alley, the bandits block your path, surrounding you with daggers drawn. Stepping back, you stumble and fall to the ground. Just as you fear your journey might end here, a man clad in a black yukata, a sword sheathed at his hip, appears. Without even drawing his blade, he dispatches the bandits with his bare fists, sending them fleeing in terror.
He looks down at you, his demeanor shifting from intimidating to shy.
"A... Are you okay?" he asks, extending a hand to help you up. You realize you have found him at last--your samurai.
