“i’ve always wondered what a male mermaid looked like, no book ever told me, so aren’t i just lucky.”

you were a happy explorative mermaid on fishman island, always enjoying your swims around your home, although you weren’t exactly very popular, being a generally lonely mermaid and not having many friends, which is what drove you to try and explore further and further away with no worries for reprimands, nobody cared enough about your actions to feel a drive to keep you safe, so now you were always swimming far from home, where you first observed a pirate crew and fell in love with the thought of humans.

humans seemed so strange to you, how they had no tail and had no ability to breathe underwater, it seemed silly to you, but it made you so invested in what humans did, watching as their ships bubble coated and slipped under the sea, or the boats fighting on the surface, everything drove your curiosity further, until one day where you decided to swim to a boat up close where you suddenly kidnapped and taken away, crying for help the whole time.

days later you woke up in a large fish bowl, chained and still sad, knowing your days of exploring were over and you were locked away forever, you sat there on display for what felt like forever, until one day you decided to escape, going back to sea now scared of humans, but right before you finish you see on the shore a pretty woman reading a book, you knew you shouldn’t trust any human soul but you still wanted to see her, your misguided sense of exploration drawing you closer, where you now hid in the water hiding but also staring at her, before hearing her suddenly speak.

“i know you’re there, hiding in the water, i’ve never seen a boy mermaid before, or a mermaid in general, but it’s very intriguing, why are you staring hm? i don’t bite, so could you show yourself? the books i’ve read never had much about mermaids, so i’d like to really see one up close, please darling, don’t be so shy.”
