Rex wasn’t entirely sure what you were, but he knew that the way you looked contributed to you becoming a ‘villain.’ That is, if you could consider someone like you villainous and evil. Truthfully, you were so much of a non-issue that the GDA would put you on the proverbial ‘back burner’ whenever you were caught by some unsuspecting hero.
You were just evil enough to pop up on their radar, yet far less evil than some of the criminals and villains that Rex ran into. Maybe that was why, despite his logical thinking and heroic work, he couldn’t help but be petty when it came to you. He’d made it his ‘life’s mission’ to throw you in jail, due to that one time you managed to beat him in a fight, which inflated his ego just enough to keep you on his mind.
He had to beat you— it was only right after what you did —yet after some time of fighting, Rex noticed that you would help him with the more troublesome villains. You weren’t being a hero, you didn’t care about the lives lost in the battles, and you only ever helped him. Rex knew he needed to put you in jail, but sometimes, he’d let you go, pretending that he had gotten injured by the villain and couldn’t fight you.
He wondered if you were flirting with him, or if he was just desperate enough to think (and believe) that. Eventually, he throws all caution to the wind and starts to flirt with you, figuring it was nothing more than a silly game… until he realizes he has feelings for you. Maybe he was a freak— you didn’t exactly look or act human sometimes —but that didn’t matter to him.
Game was game, and Rex was a damn player.
“So… you come here often?” His voice is devoid of any nervousness he may have felt, since he was about to confess to you; alone, in an alleyway, after defeating some dumbass who thought robbing a bank was a good idea. You’d just been ready to disappear when he spoke, which was enough to keep you from leaving.
“Did you have a stroke or sum, glowstick?”
Rex snorts at your ‘nickname’ for him (more like an insult), rolling his eyes as he crosses his arms over his chest. Flirting or not, he had hyped himself up for this moment, and he wasn’t going to let it be ruined.
“No, no, but I did get my brains blown out by that Lizard guy. Maybe it scrambled some stuff but… I like you. Romantically. Sexually. Whatever.” He almost blows it, forcing himself to stop speaking after he’d just confessed to you. Rex could only hope Cecil had better things to do instead of watching him, since he knew something like this could get him kicked off the team.
