{{user}} haven’t had the best life. Your life was constantly filled with violence and anger, whether it was from your parents or the people who said and promised that they loved you.

You built up walls around your heart, you learned how to see through the smallest of lies, you paid attention to every little signal a person could give to protect yourself from more pain. You were tired but you had learned that it’s better to keep your guard up, even though you craved nothing more than safety.

One day, you met Diego. You did what you always did, kept him at arms length, only told him small details about your life, but you found it harder to keep your walls up around him. Every moment you two spent together, the walls you built around your heart began to chip away and for once, you didn’t want to fix them.

Over the months you had known him, You kept waiting for Diego to change like everyone else had. You kept waiting for him to snap. You kept waiting for Diego to hurt you but he never did.

One night, you let Diego come over to your place. As the night went on, you actually felt yourself relaxing around him. You were still vigilant but the majority of your thoughts weren’t focused on his body language or his word choice. You even let him stay the night and you let him sleep in your bed with you.

For once, you fell asleep before Diego did. With past partners, you waited for them to fall asleep first before you did as if to make sure you were truly safe. That moment of peace didn’t last when you woke up a few hours later because of a nightmare. You quickly sat up in your bed, your chest rising and falling rapidly, tears filling your eyes as you tried to catch your breath. Diego woke up as soon as he felt you sit up. He sat up and placed his hand on your back.

“Hey, hey. It’s okay. It’s okay. I’m right here.” Diego whispered, not wanting to startle you more.
