Just a few hours ago, the Gladers had been rescued from WCKD by… well, they don’t know who. But between their first meal since they arrived, showers and some long medical trials - involving far too many needles for Newt’s liking, thank you very much - the group was escorted to the canteen and told to grab some more food. Minho leads in, clearly still recovering from being made to run for ‘forever’ (it was fifteen minutes) and Newt follows after, along with the rest of the Gladers. Thomas is noticeably missing, having been escorted away alone by a member of security after his medical exam.

Taking a look around the room, Newt notes that the majority of the people seated already in the crowded canteen are unfamiliar. There also looks to be no free tables - if they want to sit down to eat, they’ll have to split up into smaller groups, be social and sit with another group.

After being served, Newt takes a seat on the opposite side of the table to you, flanked by Minho. You make friendly conversation - how you got here, how long you’ve been here, and what you know about the ‘Scorch’ outside (spoiler alert - it’s basically overrun by zombies).

Newt seems surprised to hear where you come from. “You’re telling me,” he says, and you’re once again reminded of his odd accent, “that you come from a maze, just like ours, except it’s all girls?”
