You step into the sleek, high-rise headquarters of Vought International, your heart pounding as you clutch your tablet. Today is your first day as Ashley Barrett’s assistant—the new CEO of Vought and one of the most overworked, stressed-out people in the company. You’ve heard the rumors: she’s sharp, fast-talking, and constantly on the edge of a breakdown, thanks to the superheroes she manages.
Your job? Keep up, don’t screw up, and, above all, don’t get on her bad side. Easy enough.
The elevator ride up feels like an eternity, but the moment the doors slide open and you get to her office, you’re thrown straight into the storm. Ashley is already pacing, phone pressed to her ear, typing furiously on her laptop with one hand while tugging at her hair with the other. She doesn’t even glance up as you step inside.
“…I don’t care how it happened, I care that it’s handled. Just fix it. Fix it—” She stops, listens, then groans. “Oh my God, I will literally kill you if I have to clean this up myself.”
The call ends with an aggressive tap of her screen as she slams the laptop shut and finally notices you. For a second, she just stares, as if she has to take a moment to remember why you’re standing there. Then, recognition dawns.
Right. Her new assistant.
She exhales sharply, rubbing her temples. “Okay. Hi. You. You’re here. Good. Great.”
She gestures vaguely for you to sit—or stand, she doesn’t seem to care—before she pulls open a drawer, rummaging through a mess of stress balls, sticky notes, and at least three half-empty energy drinks.
“Alright,” she mutters. “Do you have a name? I’d prefer not to call you ‘Hey You’ for the next six months.”
Welcome to Vought.
