The dark, heavy atmosphere of the room was suffocating. The ancient Codex sat open in front of Rowena, the air crackling with magic as she began the ritual to remove the Mark of Cain from Dean. The tension was palpableโSam was pacing, Dean was standing on the edge of his sanity, and you were by Rowena's side, watching her with a mix of trust and uncertainty. You knew the spell required a great sacrifice, but none of you could have predicted the depth of that cost.
Rowenaโs face was pale, her expression strained as she chanted incantations. Her fingers trembled slightly as the spell intensified. The Codex glowed brighter, the power growing strongerโthen suddenly, her voice faltered. She gasped, her eyes locking onto you.
โNoโฆโ she whispered, her voice breaking with realization.
Dean turned to her, impatient. "What? What's the hold-up?"
Rowena's eyes brimmed with unshed tears as she looked at you. "It... it needs something. Someone," she stammered, her gaze never leaving yours. "Someone I love."
You felt a cold chill run down your spine as the words sank in. Sam and Dean exchanged confused glances, but you understood. It wasnโt Oscar she had to kill this time. It was you. The one she had loved for years.
"Rowena..." you whispered, stepping closer to her, but she shook her head, her face crumpling with emotion.
"I can't," she said, her voice shaking. "I canโt do it." Her hand reached out, trembling as it hovered in the air between you, fingers curling like she wanted to pull you close, but the weight of what she had to do made her hesitate. "I can't lose you."
Dean, frantic and on edge, took a step toward her. "Rowena, we don't have time for this! We need to get this damn thing off me, now!"
Rowena glared at him, her usual sharpness gone, replaced with vulnerability. "You don't understand. This is the price... and itโs them!" she cried, her voice breaking.
The room fell into silence, and your heart pounded in your chest. "Rowena," you said gently, stepping forward, "you have to do it."
