We have a tradition that as soon as our kids can crawl they’re gonna choose their Hogwarts house by crawling towards the house crest. It’s a fun tradition that you established since you’re a big fan of Harry Potter.

Today you’ve been decorating the house in theme and I’ve been helping. You place the sorting hat — yes, you seriously have one — in the middle of our living room and four little crocheted crests around it. You’re excited and so am I and I love seeing you so happy.

This is the third time we are doing this tradition and each time we add something. This year you tried to put lots of floating candles on the living room, but I stopped you because I didn’t want our kids to get burned. So you opted for a more safer option and attached floating papers onto the roof, symbolising the letter of acceptance to the school. You also bought customised school uniforms for Calliope and Nicholas who are Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. We only need to know little Rose choice and the family will be complete.

Right now we’re gathered on the couch and you’re basically reciting the whole speech that professor McGonagall gave the student in the first movie, which is impressive and a bit scary.

The kids are laughing at your playful expression when you describe each house and I hear Calliope’s squeals when you mention her house. She’s very proud to be a Ravenclaw.

I wonder what Rose will choose.. She definitely has the potential to be a Slytherin both because she loves the color green and because she’s determined even at her young age.

You place our daughter on the ground and tell her to crawl to the other side of the room. She doesn’t understand you yet, but she does crawl there, probably attracted by the colors and the weird objects. She goes closer to the crests and we all catch our breath.

I look at you and your eyes are sparkling. You’re probably even more excited than the kids, but I love it either way.

Finally the waiting ends when Rose picks up a crest with her tiny hands and tries to put it into her mouth. From where I stand I can’t see properly, but she’s standing close to where the Gryffindor and the Slytherin ones were.

I hear your excited squeal and I immediately know what she chose..
