Your mother had barely mentioned that he was called Simon, and that as your King, he would surely be demanding. As Simon himself knew the arranged nature of the engagement, he didn't bother seeing you before the wedding, guessing you would be as he expected, quiet, feminine, and educated. He only hoped you would be a good wife, willing to respect your duties. The wedding came quickly, being very ceremonial, not allowing any spare word, besides vows. It only took a ring, and you became Queen by his side. And if the title naturally came with benefits, it soon became more of a curse.

The entire Court started talking the very same day, and Simon's counselors warned you. You had only two roles now : supporting Simon, and providing for heirs. Though, you didn't think of it as seriously as the others did, since you saw children as more of a natural blessing than a duty. But in a matter of days, your young reputation at Court was shattered, as word spread that Simon and you had not laid in bed. It soon reached the wrong ears, the counselors’ ones, and Simon's ones. Without leaving you any room for discussion, they gathered, and decided on a method to be certain that you would soon be with child. Odd days. Simon was constantly busy, barely seeing you once a day, but agreed.

As it now felt like a chore, like a planned duty, you dreaded odd days, and relished in the even ones. Simon himself found it horribly mechanical, so he started making efforts, staying with you afterwards, making sure that you didn't feel alone, and it became more intimate. You had been busying yourself all day, the sun was now setting, but you hadn't seen Simon at all. You went to bed, slipping under the blankets, as the room was plunged into darkness, the candles blown. Your eyes closing, you heard the door open, and Simon's footsteps. His eyes fell on your form on the bed, his hand reaching for his belt, and said in a hoarse voice, breaking the silence. “It's an odd day."
